April Lockhart
April Lockhart (born July 4, 1995) started her journey in music in the 7th grade when she started piano and guitar classes. April's very first song was called Different, which she wrote at the age of 12. As April approached 14 years old, she spent long hours developing song ideas as well as perfecting the song. She began writing along with her dad at home in NY and LA within a short time. April was the month that she began to write about other issues in Take My Hand for those of her peers who struggled with peer pressure, disabilities or even suicide. Lockhart is an influencer in the beauty and lifestyle industry with a growing fan base. She works with popular brand Ilia in partnership, and is also a lifestyle expert. Since she was born without a left hand, she is a major part of herself. But it's not her entire story. Lockhart's profile on Twitter doesn't conceal her being disabled, but neither does it make a point of it. The point? It's important to keep in mind that we all have many faces, our identities are varied and we're much greater than the bodies we wear. Lockhart talks via video in Nashville. "I don't wish for it to dictate my existence. I don't want to only be recognized as an expert in disabilities. However, it doesn't affect my daily living. I still do all the things I normally would and I've adapted to my disability. In addition, I see it a very important aspect of me. Lockhart inspires us to keep moving forward with self-acceptance. She has had periods where she felt uncomfortable in wearing certain clothing styles which displayed her arms. Now she wears whatever outfit she wishes and shares pictures on Facebook with pride. One of the keys to self-love for her is that it's not a place to go. That's true of everyone regardless of the level of insecurity. It's important to have people that know and understand you. They will be the ones to ask what you fret about?
