Jennifer Garner is a West Virginia native who was born in Houston on 17 April 1972. William John Garner is her father. He was one of the chemical engineer at Union Carbide. Her mother Patricia Ann taught at a local university. She received her degree in chemical engineering to emulate her father. However, because she wanted to pursue her dream as an actor, she relocated into New York to try her chance in the movie industry. She was employed at a restaurant while appearing in Broadway productions. On the television series "Felicity," she had an appearance in a brief scene. (It is in this show that she got to know her husband Scott Foley. Garner made her mark in her romantic comedic film "13 Going on 30" in which she portrayed a teenager trapped in the body of a 30-year-old. Garner chose Gary Winick as the director of the film. The team continued to look for new projects after Winick's demise in 2011. Garner, who was designated as an ambassador for artists with Save the Children U.S.A. during 2009, had an important role within the organization. This role entails promoting education, nutrition, and literacy as well as early education. Garner has been a member of the board for the non-profit group since the year 2014. She promotes early learning for children. As an ambassador she visits often with the families who are part of Early Steps to School Success which is a program designed to guide parents on ways to support the children in learning.
